Many of us have probably heard of church leaders banning politicians who support the Reproductive Health Bill from receiving or even observing communion in the Catholic Church.
Similar instances of excluding so-called sinners occur in other churches as well, not just in the Catholic Church.
From what I understand, Jesus Christ came for sinners—not for the sinless and holy.
If that is the case, why would the church prohibit sinners from participating in its activities and rituals? Why would it turn them away? Wouldn’t that go against its very purpose?
I remember when my friend was starting a church. I was involved in its early planning and vision. He saw the church not just as a place of worship but also as a place of healing—a refuge for the wounded, much like a hospital where people come to be restored.
With that vision in mind, we came up with the slogan: "A Perfect Place for Imperfect People."
However, a friend of his, who had initially wanted to support the church, reacted strongly to the slogan. She said she didn’t want to be part of a group of imperfect people.
But if Jesus Christ had rejected sinners instead of sin, what do you think would have happened?
What do you think would have happened if Jesus Christ despised the sinner instead of the sin?
