I know that most men don’t pay as much attention to gender issues as women do. However, I recently came across a humorous short story through a chain email that favors women when it comes to lying. Of course, it’s just a joke, but I hope it brings a smile to your face!
When Women Lie
One day, a seamstress was sitting by a river, diligently sewing, when her thimble slipped from her fingers and fell into the water. Distraught, she cried out in despair. At that moment, the Lord appeared and asked, “My dear child, why are you crying?”
The seamstress replied, “Lord, my thimble has fallen into the river, and I need it to help my husband make a living for our family.”
The Lord reached into the water and pulled out a golden thimble encrusted with sapphires. “Is this your thimble?” He asked.
The seamstress shook her head. “No.”
Once more, the Lord dipped His hand into the river and retrieved a golden thimble studded with rubies. “Is this your thimble?” He asked again.
Once more, the seamstress replied, “No.”
Finally, the Lord reached down a third time and came up with a simple leather thimble. “Is this your thimble?” He asked.
With relief, the seamstress nodded. “Yes.”
Pleased with her honesty, the Lord rewarded her by giving her all three thimbles, and the seamstress went home overjoyed.
Years later, while walking along the riverbank with her husband, tragedy struck—the man lost his footing and tumbled into the water, vanishing beneath the surface. Panicked, the seamstress cried out for help. Once again, the Lord appeared. “Why are you crying?” He asked.
“Oh Lord, my husband has fallen into the river!” She wailed.
The Lord reached into the water and pulled out George Clooney. “Is this your husband?” He asked.
Without hesitation, the seamstress cried, “Yes!”
The Lord’s expression darkened. “You lied! That is not your husband!”
The seamstress quickly pleaded, “Oh, forgive me, my Lord! It’s all a misunderstanding. You see, had I said ‘no’ to George Clooney, You would have brought up Brad Pitt. Then, if I had refused him, You would have finally brought up my real husband. But Lord, I am not in the best of health, and I knew I wouldn’t be able to care for all three men. So, I figured it was best to say ‘yes’ to George Clooney from the start.”
And so, the Lord let her keep him.
Moral of the Story
Whenever a woman lies, it’s for a good and honorable reason—always in the best interest of everyone involved. That’s our story, and we’re sticking to it!
