Life In A Wallet

My work allows me to travel. If there is an available submarine for public transport, I must have used it already.

I took a bus in my recent trip to my area of assignment. It was night time. After a few hours since we left the bus terminal, the lady carrying a baby seated at the back next to mine found out that her wallet was gone. She cried.

The other passengers told her that she must have lost it back at the terminal. They thought that one of those vendors who went inside the bus stole her wallet. But, the lady was pretty sure that she lost her wallet inside the bus. The last time she remembered holding her wallet was when one of the bus drivers (there were two drivers, they drive alternately) checked her bus ticket. The bus was already moving that time.

Insinuating that one of the passengers stole her wallet, she pleaded to all the passengers that her wallet be returned to her. She said that she and her baby needed that money. She also has important documents inside the wallet including all her identification cards.

It reminded me of my friend who also lost her wallet. All her identification cards and many important documents were in that wallet. It took her 6 months to get a replacement of the lost identification cards but not all. Many of her important documents were gone forever.

For the sake of convenience, we carry with us important documents. Most of the time, we placed them inside our wallet. It is like putting our proof of life inside that little container. When we lost it, we lost our proof of existence.

I only have a few things in my wallet – cash, credit card, ATM card and one (1) identification card. No documents and other stuff. Everything is replaceable.

  1. i don't want those things to happen to me..to lost important docs and important IDs.

  2. I have all those things you mentioned in my wallet.
last end of feb, I was packing my things when I noticed that my wallet are missing.
All my ID/s, credit cards, and ATM cards was there. The night before i was joking to my mother that she should take all of my credit cards, hide it till im gone para maiwasan ko kakautang habang wala satin lol, wala na talaga akong time maghanap kasi paalis na ko mga ilang araw nalang.
So my mom said na di naman nya yun itatago bec aside from nandun mga ID's and ATM ko may pera din yun.
Then after I left home (mga 3days after) our newly hired kasambahay was gone, jumped in a gate at midnight, leaves all the doors open and luckily my nagroronda sa loob ng village kung hindi napasok na kami ng masasamang loob dahil my mga kasama daw yung aming kasambahay na nagtakbuhan lang nung matanawan ng nagroronda sa malayo at inilawan.
My mother learned that many things gone including money and jewelries, so they also assumed that sya din ang nakakuha ng wallet ko.

  3. Since my encounter with a "holdaper" a few years ago, hindi na po ako nagdadala ng wallet. I only bring a coin purse whenever I go out of the house. I bring an ATM card, one credit card, few bills, and 1 identification card. But they are not in a wallet. I put them in separate pockets inside my bag or separately in small plastic envelopes.

  8. We really need to be cautious and careful all the time. Splitting our "life" away from just one wallet is prudence!

  12. It really pains me to hear people lost their hard earned money and essential IDs to thieves (snatchers, slashers, you name it), let's be cautious, thieves lurk in broad daylight, blend with the public, and probably sitting beside you or just standing in front of you. Poverty has made them more bolder than ever.

    happy summer!

  21. That is so true, napaka-importante ng mga documents sa panahon ngayon, para kang hindi tao kapag wala kang patunay na tao ka. like your passport at mga ID's. Good thing, hindi pa ako nawawalan ng wallet.

tagal kong absent ah? hehehe musta na rito?

  28. Hi Elyong, it is so nice to be back here once again.
This is a great post. It reminds me those time that I lost my wallet, too. There was not much money in there but there was my SSS id, 2 atm card, 2 credit card and one membership card. I was really so sad. It took me four months to replace some of them. :(
