Determining The Will Of God

In my previous post, I mentioned about knowing the Will of God is like shooting in the dark. Below is George Mueller’s method for determining the will of God.
  • Seek to get your heart into such a state that it has no will of its own in a given matter. When you’re ready to do the Lord’s will, whatever it may be, nine-tenths of the difficulties are overcome.
  • Having done this, you don’t leave the result to feeling or simply impression. If you do so, you leave yourself liable to great delusion.
  • Seek the will of the Spirit of God through, or in connection with, God’s Word. The Spirit and the Word must be combined. If you look to the Spirit alone without the Word, you lay yourself open to great delusions also. If the Spirit guides us, He’ll do it according to the Scriptures, not contrary to them.
  • Next, you take into account providential circumstances. These often plainly indicate God’s will in connection with His Word and Spirit.
  • Ask God in prayer to reveal His will to you.
  • Thus, through prayer, the study of the Word, and reflection, you come to a deliberate judgment, according to the best of your ability and knowledge.

If your mind is thus at peace, and continues after two or three more petitions, you proceed accordingly. George Muller has found this method always effective in trivial or important issues.

Who Is George Mueller?

He is a Christian evangelist and coordinator of orphanages in Bristol, England, cared for 10,024 orphans in his life. He was well-known for providing an education to the children under his care, to the point where he was accused of raising the poor above their natural station in life.

His famous work with the orphans began when two young children were thrown upon the church's care. Mueller had only two shillings to his name when he began the orphanage work, but over the next sixty years God sent more than $7,500,000 to supply their needs. New buildings were built or purchased, staff was hired, and the hundreds of children never missed a meal. Many times prayers were said over empty plates only to have food arrive at the last moment.

Mueller resolved never to tell anyone what his needs were. He told them to God and confidently expected them to be met.

During his life, Mueller started 117 schools which educated over 120,000 young people and orphans. He became pastor of Bethesda Chapel in Bristol. The church had some 2,000 members at his death.

Spurgeon said, "Of flowers of speech he has none, and we hardly think he cares for them; but of the bread of Heaven he has abundance."

  1. Ang galing naman! Iba talaga ang nagagawa ng faith.

I hope I can reach that faith someday. I know I am in a process, I can see God revealing it to me in my mountain bike rides.

Thanks for sharing this Elyong. I adore orphans din kasi.
